More than 80,000 cases of cancer that are diagnosed every year in the United States could be tied to unhealthy diets, according to a recent study. Fred Hutch states that, based on a compilation of 2015 data, it has been found that an estimated 80,110 new cancer cases among adults in the U.S. (i.e. 5% of the total cancer cases diagnosed here in 2015), could be tied to poor diet. That’s right on par with the percentage of cancer cases due to alcohol consumption that was actually found to be accounting for approximately 4 to 6% of annual cancer case diagnoses.
Clearly, science still has a lot to learn but it’s clear that everyone could benefit from more vitamins from food, better dietary habits, and looking a great deal more into the science behind how redox reactions are one of the functions of mitochondria.
